Lime Gelato ~ So Tangy

 Do you like lime as much as I do?
I decided to make Lime Gelato using my gelato maker. The result was nothing short of marvelous!
If you love lime, this recipe is for you.

My first attempt at making Lime Gelato included the zest of two limes. However, I prefer just a hint of zest in the gelato. Therefore, my recipe below indicates the zest of only one-half of a lime. You can bump up or reduce this amount to your taste.

IF you prefer a fruity gelato, you can check out my blog post for Strawberry Gelato using my DeLonghi Gelato Maker. This model does not require freezing the bowl. For this reason alone, it is worth it. The downside of the machine is it’s a little noisy while in operation.


So, if you’re contemplating owning a gelato maker, I can only say that you won’t regret it. The great thing about gelato is the intense explosion of flavor! I don’t buy ice cream anymore. I prefer to make my own gelato or sorbet. There is nothing like it.


Lime Gelato

There is a recipe for Lemon Gelato in the DeLonghi recipe book.
I swapped out the lemon for lime to make the Lime Gelato.

Adapted by Carmen Ortiz of Baking is my Zen

1/2 cup filtered  lime juice
Zest of ½ lime
½ cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup whole milk
¼ cup heavy cream

Yield: about one pint

DIRECTIONS:

Have Gelato maker ready for use.

Assemble your ingredients.

Measure out the ingredients.

Zest ½ of a lime.

Juice the limes and use a filter to capture just the juice, discarding the pulp.

Place the water, sugar, filtered lime juice, and lime zest in a bowl. Mix until sugar is dissolved. (Optional: I heat the ingredients to dissolve the sugar and then cool completely.)

Add whole milk and heavy cream to the lime mixture.

Stir to incorporate ingredients.

It will look like it’s about to curdle. But, not to worry.

Pour mixture into the gelato bowl.

Cover with lid. Start the machine and Lime Gelato will be ready in 40 minutes.

Storing Gelato:
When storing your gelato, cover with plastic wrap touching the gelato to reduce ‘freezer burn’.

(I  put the gelato in a freezer bag sealing it airtight. Then I put it in another freezer bag, label it and store in freezer.)

I’ve started my summer fun today with a visit to Pier Village in Long Branch.
On my way there, I stopped by a bakery called

There’s a nice, airy, open feel about the bakery.
What a gorgeous light fixture!

What’s really great about this place is they make
custom design cakes.

They also make cupcakes, cookies, cake pops etc.


And…they make cakes for Father’s Day…

I had a great time speaking ‘shop’ with the employees. I could talk about baking all day!

The bakery also sells ice cream.

I purchased two cupcake flavors; Red Velvet and Devils Food. Both sooo good!


Today, it’s June 16…which means Father’s Day is not far away.
This Sunday, June 19, 2011, it’s Father’s Day.
Time to get the BBQ grills ready.

Ever hear of FIVE GUYS? Well, FIVE GUYS will be opening in Hillsborough, NJ. The anticipated date of opening is June 23.
